Application of Cellular Automata in Bi-Objective Operation of Multi Reservoir Systems

Optimal operation of multi-reservoir systems is one the most challenging problems in water resource management due to their multi-objective nature and time-consuming solving process. In this paper, Multi-Reservoir Parallel Cellular Automata-Simulated Annealing (MPCA-SA), a hybrid method based on cellular automata simulated annealing presented for bi-objective operations problems. The problem considers system with two conflicting objectives supply hydropower generation. MPCA-SA uses single-objective acting parallel explore search space find optimal solutions probabilistic interaction each other. Bi-objective Dez-Gotvand-Masjed Soleyman three-reservoir system, as real-world southwestern Iran period 60 months, considered order evaluate ability proposed method. addition, Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGAII) also used solve results are compared those MPCA-SA, indicating capabilities show that able produce comparable NSGAII much-reduced computational cost equal 1.2% required by NSGAII, emphasizing efficiency practicality
